| Long wait for shower | | Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 12:37:29 AM by BlogJeeves Team | | A DISABLED Ipswich couple who have been unable to shower for the past three months have blasted the council for not fixing the problem.Pat Fordham, 56, and her husband Tony, 61, say they have been forced to wash in their bathroom sink since the end of July because the door of their walk-in shower is broken.Mrs Fordham, who suffers from arthritis, and Mr Fordham, who has spinal problems, have a specially fitted walk-in shower because neither can use a bath however the shower door suffers a leak.The pair, who live in Inverness Road, Rushmere, stopped using the shower because it leaked so much it took up to two hours to clean-up the bathroom following use.Mrs Fordham said: “We have been waiting for the council to replace the door or give us a new shower since July.“We kept phoning them but we got fobbed up with excuses.“The problem with the shower door just got worse and worse to a stage where we were so fed up having to mop up afterwards.“We ended up just washing at the sink which is not very easy for me with arthritis."Since The Evening Star made enquiries into the situation the couple have been told the work will be carried out soon.An Ipswich Council spokeswoman said: “We had tried to meet the couple on several occasions but now have reached agreement on the work that is needed.“We hope to have the necessary parts by next week and we have informed the tenants and reminded them that we are here to help with any further enquiries at any time."Weblink:www.ipswich.gov.uk .... | |
